David Avant - Lead Pastor
So you wanna know about Pastor David Avant? Here's the scoop:
David grew up in Myrtle Beach, SC in a Christian Home where he dealt with a severe drug problem....every time the local church doors were open, he got drug there. Ok, ok....in all honesty, David considers himself very fortunate to have grown up in a Christian home with parents who taught him to live for God. He was saved at the age of ten at the Ocean View Baptist Church in Myrtle Beach. David is a 94 graduate of Horry Georgetown Technical College and a 96 graduate of Coastal Carolina University , earning both degrees in Criminal Justice . He's now working on his M.Div. in Pastoral Counseling at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary .
Without a doubt the greatest thing (other than Jesus) that's ever happened to David was meeting Mrs. Lori Hardee, who he somehow charmed and convinced to marry him. They've been married for 22 years now, and have two girls: Morgan (married and in college) and Taylor (High School). The second greatest thing that's ever happened to David was just recently when he became a grandpa. Since becoming a grandpa, David can be found making goo-goo eyes and weird noises that no one except him and Hayden can understand. It's really quite funny to watch, but seriously....David is excited about being a grandpa! Just ask him! He'll tell you all about it and even show you pictures!
Before jumping into church planting, David retired from the Horry County Police Department as their Deputy Chief with 25 years and 1 month of service. David is currently also serving the Horry County School Board where he has now served for 9 years. He's served the church as a Deacon, Itinerate Evangelist, and Interim Pastor. He was licensed by the Hickory Grove Baptist Church. Along with the rest of the above, David also owns and operates Low Country Termite and Pest Control. He assures you that you can call him for your pest control needs, because "the bug stops here" (if you think I'm kidding, just take a look at that picture up on the right)......yes, that was a totally shameless plug for the pest control business, but don't worry: all the proceeds from the business go to feed hungry children. Their names are Morgan and Taylor and they live in his house.
Ok, ok...in all seriousness, David is passionate about seeing people meet Jesus and feels like God has given him a vision of planting a church that is not defined by a style of worship or the clothes that the people wear, but rather is known for the awesome God that is worshiped and the lives that are changed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
